Happy Holidays

On behalf of all the MANTE executive, I want to take this opportunity to wish you all a wonderful winter break. May the joy of the season fill your heart with love. Enjoy this time, create and cherish the new memories and welcome in a new year full of endless possibilities.

2023 has not been an easy year. This Christmas may look and feel different and we might find ourselves struggling to find the joy of the season. A reminder during these times that you are not alone. Although the MANTE office will be closed over the break, if you need anything, if you need someone to talk to, please reach out. I will be available through email, jennifer.monaster@sjasd.ca and will be back in the office on January 8th.

Happy Holidays to all. May you be safe in your celebrations and see you all in 2024!!!!

Remembrance Day

I have had a few questions regarding Remembrance Day. This year Remembrance Day falls on a Saturday. Our Collective Agreement does address this scenario in section 10.02 Remembrance Day shall be a paid holiday except where it falls on a Saturday or Sunday. We do not get a day off in lieu of Remembrance Day.

National Day for Truth and Reconciliation

September 30th, National Day for Truth and Reconciliation is a federally declared statutory holiday to recognize the tragic loss and the lasting effects of Canada’s history and the residential school system. Our collective agreement recognizes all federally declared holidays. At this time, the Provincial government has not declared it a holiday and therefore the schools were not closed in lieu of this day. The Association and the Division have written a Letter of Understanding for the 2023/2024 school year. We have agreed that all 10-month MANTE members will take a day off in lieu on any designated in-service day. What that means is  you need to pick one of the in-service days you had planned on working and now take that day off with pay. For 10 month employees who work all in-service days, you will now select one of those days and take it off with pay.  For the 12 month employees, please select any work day during the winter or spring breaks, in consultation with your administrator/supervisor. This day in lieu cannot be carried over to the next school year. Please pick your day and enter it into Atrieve using the code S30. Employees will be paid for this day as if it were a regular workday.

School Support Staff Recognition

The week of September 25th to the 29th has been proclaimed by the Province of Manitoba as School Support Staff Recognition Week. I wish I could thank every single one of you for the work that you do with a big present, but unfortunately, I did not win the Lotto 649.

I do want to send out my sincere gratitude for all the work that is done by you every day to ensure that the students in this division are supported. The schools would not be the same without you. Remember your value, remember your worth. The work that you are doing in this division matters and is appreciated by this Association.

And don’t forget, advanced voting is now open. Every vote counts. Get out and vote!

Absence Codes

Absence Code Clarifications

EAD-Ed. Asst Day: These are the inservice days you do not work . The number of days change year to year.

You should have submitted them to your supervisor by Sept 9 2022.

New employees should select, submit and enter their respective days as soon as possible.

You need to enter them as absences in the Atrieve system as well and should be entered as soon as possible.

Spd 1: This code is used if you are attending a school initiated PD session where the school  is paying for your sub costs if they are required.

Spd 2 :This code is used if you are attending a school initiated PD session where no sub is required

Spd 4: This code is used when you are attending a PD session and the MANTE PD fund has paid for the  session.

This is the most frequent absence code MANTE staff would be using when attending PD sessions.

The Feb 3 2023 inservice day is no longer a mandatory EA PD Day.

It is now available to be one of the three days EAs do not have to work.

If you wish to change one of  your selected three days please contact your administrator

MANTE

Manitoba Association of Non-Teaching Employees

Mante

The Manitoba Association of Non-Teaching Employees (MANTE) was certified as the bargaining unit for all clerical employees of the St. James-Assiniboia School Division #2 on November 23, 1977.

We are currently an organization of approximately 500 members. At the school level we represent Educational Assistants, Program Assistants,  Library Technicians, Interpreter Tutors, Secretarial Staff, Computerized Notetakers and Behavior Intervention Specialists. At the Board Office and Maintenance we represent non-management Secretarial Staff including payroll, accounts payable/receivable and reception.

The objects and purposes of the Association are to unite into one organization all non-managerial employees, to act as a bargaining agent for employees, to regulate the relations between employees in an equitable manner and to maintain harmonious relations between the employers and the employees.
